well, i think this is a good one to give my opinion and say what i know:

I live in MD, i'm Italian and i have to say that the people in here, most of them, REALLY believes in the Bible, the Church/Vatican and manage to go to church whenever possible.

In Italy i still know someone who goes to church on Sunday morning or sat afternoon, or maybe, closer to the Holdays (example for Christmas) goes to church for pray.

Most of the people that i know, most of the people i don't know but i can see around seems to don't go to church, don't read the Bible, maybe they can believe but in a very "free" way, out from any method as going to church methodically.

I think it depends by the family in which you grow up, the mentality, the community around you and the personal opinion that you have about the Church, the Bible and most of all, God.

I believe in God, but i don't practice to go to church, i think it's not necessary if you always have a prayer to spend for someone you love and your faith is strong anyway. It's not the place that makes the difference, is what you feel in your heart.

i know people who don't believe and define themselves agnostic.
i know who believes but don't use to go to church.
i know who believes and goes constantly to church.
i also know who doesn't believe but use to go to church to be recognized and get a good opinion in the community.

I feel like everyone can say what they want, i know what i believe, i know what's my own right way to practice, i feel free without following a method, and for something that can be VERY PERSONAL, i prefer when i' m alone with myself, no distractions, and dedicate all myself to the people and the Entity that i love.

I don't wanna say "italians don't do those things because..."
Everyone has a reason to do or to refuse to do a thing, there's not a unique reason, the faith is something very personal.

Bye

dog lover, amo un italiano tanto
I think still a lot. My boy friend lives in Italy. Sometimes he goes to church with his parents, especially when I am in trouble, he goes to church more often than usual.

not so many as people thinks... many "believe" in God but doesn't go to church..
just old people are the one that still practice it, but it's quite rare in youngest people

*musa*
Many people believe in God but they don't practice catholicism because they don't like the purposes of Vatican.
Excuse for my English. I'm Italian. Hi to Australia!
