if you like museums and architecture, stay for 4 days. but, if you don't like crazy noisy scooters, don't go at all.

I spent three weeks in Italy. I traveled from Aviano to Rome by train. On the way, I spent several days in Florence and a couple days in Venice. The rest of the time I stayed in Rome. I truly enjoyed my visit to Florence. There is so much to see and experience. Rome was also very nice. If you are a history buff, you may need to spend four days in Florence to take it all in. I stayed at at a Pensione in Rome. This is a bed and breakfast type deal. I lived with a very nice elderly italian lady in her modest apartment. She fixed me cappacino every night and drew a hot bath for me as well. I felt like a grandchild! The cost for this was about $35.00 american dollars a day! Check it out. What an experience!

I would, at least, plan on a hotel for 3 days in Florence. 2 Days would be in Florence itself and one would be in nearby Pisa. If you got lots more time, don't forget Roma now!
