LOUIS A

How many hours drive is it from venice, italy to milano, italy?

I am considering this drive across Italy. Thinking of driving from Venice to stop in Padua first. Then off to Milan for a night or two. From Milan to Lake Como for a night and back to Venice.
Any suggestions for freeway, little towns, etc would be really helpful.
Please respond soon!
Much thanks, Louis,

The driving time can be quite variable depending on exactly when you're going and where you want to go in Milan. Nominally, you can take the A4 autostrada and get there in about 3 hours, but in realistic traffic conditions you can add 30 minutes to an hour. A good source for driving directions, distances, and an estimate of the tolls, use the viamichelin site: http://www.viamichelin.com/viamichelin/int/tpl/hme/MaHomePage.htm

In addition to Padova, interesting places on or near the route include:

Soave - small old walled town with nice castle
Verona - lots to see; Roman theater & colosseum; extensive old town
Mantova - castle; Palazzo Te
Sirmione - on Lago Garda, castle; Roman ruins; very scenic
Bergamo - the old upper town is spectacular

Obviously with your schedule, you won't be stopping in all of these, but it should give you some choice.

Note that you don't need a car to do this. The train system here is quite good. There are no train stations in Soave or Sirmione, but you can get to them by bus from Verona, or by boat from Desenzano or Peschiera del Garda (in the case of Sirmione). what? 4/5 hours??? are you kidding??..
I live near Venice and I study in Milan so I can tell you that the journy from Venice to milan is 3 hours, but you should avoid peek hours (7/8 in the morning and 6/7 in the evening) because you will find a lot of traffic in the Milan and Venice ringroads (tangenziali...if you can you'd better stay away from tangenziali in Italy..)

If you take the highway are 2h 30 or less!!!
Isuggest you to spend some time to lake garda and the park of Gardaland, one of the biggest and best of Europe!!
Lake Garda are little best of lake Como!

Milan is not so interesting..I suggest you Toscana (in english is Tuscan?) or Liguria, the sea is beautiful!! but you may have some problem with the car..the parking costs are very expensive!!

If you want more suggestion contact me: mekarisam@hotmail.com

P.S. i'm italian, i can help you with 100% personal experinces!!

..... I'M ITALIAN, I LIVE IN VENICE...!!!
FROM VENICE TO MILAN.... 4 / 5 HOURS... dipending on traffic..!!!

CIAO, BUON SOGGIORNO IN ITALIA..!!

Venice is about 3 hours from Milan. Lake Como is about 40 minutes (or less) from Milan in the opposite direction. I would suggest the train, the traffic around Milano is very chaotic.

It's about a 2.5 hour drive to Milan from Venice.... outside of rush hours. Rush hours are from 7am to about 9 or 10am and the from 4.30 - 5:00 pm to about 8pm. This holds for both cities and between. You can add an hour or more to your travel time if you get caught in traffic.
From Milan you may want to go to Monza (10 miles from milan): Visit the cathedral where one of the nails that held Jesus christ to his cross has been put into the crown of a Longobard Queen (Teodelinda).
From Monza you can go to Lecco, the setting for Manzoni's novel... everyone goes to Como but Lecco is very nice too. Lecco is about a 40 min drive north of Monza.

I drove from Venice to Lake Como overnight (big mistake) stopping in Milan first, I would say about 3 1/2-4 hours to Milan. Then its like 1 1/2 from Milan to Como. *When going to Como follow directions to a place called Lecco, otherwise its a real mess! Its a very nice trip, Enjoy!

2 1/2 hours approx, if there is no accident on the highway, if there is no fog, and if there is nobody blocking the highway protesting for something

From Venice-Milan, I think it'll take you 3-4 hours. Well, it really depends on how fast you drive. But, that's what I think. =]

connbellingham
It depends on how fast you drive. Since you didn't specify, my answer is 31 days, 768 hours, 33 minutes and 34 seconds

oh, and they don't have cars in Italy.

Everybody drives around on little mopeds and the say "Ciao" in a cool little Italian accent.
