I know EVERYTHING...I'm a 15 years old italian girl!!
So...You can ask me all you want.
I just want to correct something:
a. It is shaped like a boot
b. That's where the Romans came from
c. The pope lives there
d. They won the last football World cup
e. They eat pizza, pasta, WE HAVE NOT ALL FANCY EXPENSIVE CLOTHES AT ALL!and eat well generally, and SOMEONE take care in their appearance.(SOMEONE DO IT,SOMEONE DON'T...LIKE IN AMERICA AND IN ALL OTHER COUNTRIES!)... They like leather shoes, make good leather clothing items and the men often are fairly hairy ---> NOT ALWAYS!
f. MICHELANGELO IS A VERY IMPORTANT ITALIAN ARTIST
g. Not aware of any music - perhaps the late PAVAROTTI?
PS: WE HAVE ALL KIND OF MUSIC,ROCK,POP,METAL,CLASSIC...BUT OUR MUSIC ISN'T VERY FAMOUS IN THE WORLD,EVEN IF IT'S VERY GOOD(BY ME).
PPS: SORRY FOR MY BAD ENGLISH! |

I don't know too much about Italy's history. I know that Italy used to be made up of many different church states, and I believe they were unified in the 1800's. Unlike most European countries, the language Italian was not taken from the country's capital like Spain or France did, but was instead voted on by intellects, and they used Dante's own version of the Venice language. I also know a few things about WWII and rebellions.
Art, I know a lot about Michelangelo. He did the Sistine Chapel, David, Madonna and Child, just tons really. He was very into sculpture but as we all know he was also a fantastic painter. Then of course there is Leonardo and Raphael.
As far as music goes I dont know that much. I have a few Italian cd's. Most of my friends in Italy like American music though.
Language, Im learning. I can read it fairly well, Im actually pretty proud of it, but its much harder for me to hold a conversation. Although I do know a lot of tenses like imperfect, future, present, passato prossimo (i dont know what it translates to), and stuff like reflexive, reciprocal.
Depending on where you are, fashion and the way of life is very different. The north is more cultured and has more money, although the country as a whole needs more economic help. The south is definitely a lot poorer, they have less to make money off of, its mostly farming. But even people who dont have a lot of money take pride in their appearances. I know people who dont have much at all but still love to dress up at night and look really sexy. It is a very fashionable country.
And I think they do great with language. Most of the young people I talk to there can speak a little english, enough to talk a bit at least. And thats a lot more then I can say about Americans. |

Hi!I'm from Milan, Italy.
Italy has a very long history. At the beginning there were the "Romans" who conquered all the well known world of the time and made lot of inventions! They had water in the houses, a well organized "state" and have gladiators and other entertainments, like naumachie (they filled with water the colosseum and organized real naval battles!).Then come barbarian and medieval time. Italy didn't exist. there were many provinces. Each with a prince, count exc...and a castle, and different uses, language exc...Italy was great in the past, it has had great writers (dante, petrarca, boccaccio, manzoni, leopardi,....) musicians (monteverdi realized the first musical drama, verdi, ), artists (tiziano, michelangelo, raffaello, leonardo da vinci, ...) it has had a great period of architecture maybe also liked to the variety of places.
Italy has become a poor state during this century. Maybe because of the 2 world wars.
Our music is dead...we have only singers and songs of very poor level. I personally listen to u2, queen, coldplay, embrace, elvis, muse...and the possibility for emerging bands are very poor...the field is very closed.
Cinema is also dead...(even if it has always been very regional...too regional...). I only appreciate some comic actor which is not exportable because their comic is about local things, like aldo giovanni and giacomo, boldi and christian de sica or fantozzi.
I love in fact...english and american movies...!
language...is very various and very few speaks an italian without dialectal inflexions. In Milan we speak an Italian without dialectal inflexions. Here there are many cultural heritages. |
