Airline tix can be had for $700 to $1,000 NYC to Roma (coach). Take at least $100 more for each day you plan to stay, unless you are a quite-attractive female, 20-something, under 120#, in which case bring at least $10 a day, for phone calls.

we went in the beginning of march this year, so not tourist season. our tickets were around $1300 for the both of us from houston to rome. our villa was 400 euros for a week. we paid another 300 euros for a rental car and then fuel. from there we spent about 10 euros for breakfast, 10-15 for lunch and then another 30 euros for dinner plus 10 euros for snack and gelato during the day. in rome we spent around 200-250 euros for tours, tickets, subway passes, souveniors, and parking. florence we spent 200 or so for tickets, parking, and souveniors. pompeii/vesuvius was another 40-50 for parking and tickets. and all the little towns we visited inbetween was another 300-400 euros for gifts, tours, parking, etc.

this was a trip that did not involve really fancy restaurants and every guided tour possible. we did a lot of things on our own and sought places to eat that were more local and casual. i wanted to spend more money on actual items to bring home than tour guides and food we probably wouldnt eat. the little local places had some of the best food i have ever had, which i have found is typical every place i have traveled. you dont need to spend a lot of money to have a great meal. our trip was for one week.

hope this helps. do plan a budget for everything and then have a cushion to fall back on. we saved an extra 500-600 dollars for extra things. we didnt use all of our extra money, but it was helpful for those things we wanted and hadnt planned for.

you can check on sites like cheaptickets.com, travelocity.com, orbitz.com, and different places like that.

The first person is right, it will probably cost a lot!.
Many things can affect the price of a trip to Italy. It could be like what hotel in Italy you are staying at and when are you going, there could be a discount or something, I don't know. Another thing is which airline you are flying with. (delta, alaskan airlines, etc.) And the trip. It depends on where you live and you're flying. If you live in California and you fly or you live in NY and you fly the distance might be different therefore causing a difference in price. I hope this helps, and if you're going to Italy , then have fun! : ]

oh well...so much expensive? I'm Italian and i liked to get a trip to Rome...well... without fly i calculated to spend around 500 € for a week (cheap hotel is around 25/30 € per night per person), cappuccino and brioche are around 2,5 €, ice-cream 2-3 €, pizza 7 € (a piece 2 €), coke 2 €, espresso 0.80/0.90 €... so you can eat cheap... dinner around 20/30 €...
ah... remember....
1) in Italy tips are NOT obligatory, Italians generally never gives it... in pubs,bars,restaurants...is not obligatory !!!(generally tour guides you give always something...)
2) all prices are calculated with taxes so you don't have to add nothing!!! never...
so...hope you have fun...
