Flight prices vary a lot depending on when you go. RyanAir has a flight on the 23rd of June, for instance, for 2 euro from Rome Ciampino airport to Venice Treviso airport. There are return flights after that for as low as 12 euro. On other days, budget flights can be on the order of 30 euro in each direction. You need to check your specific travel days to find the best deal. A couple of good resources are: http://www.skyscanner.net/ and http://www.whichbudget.com/en/

The alternative is the train: The faster trains take 4 hr 27 min and cost 61.80 euro. The intercity train takes 6 hours at a cost of 41.50 euro. There is another choice with the train. You could take the night train from Rome to Venice. You can get a berth and sleep through the night for 45.20 at the Amica rate if you buy the ticket in advance (the standard fare is 56.50 euro). This train takes longer, but you'll be sleeping anyway and you would not have to have a hotel for the night. http://www.trenitalia.com/cms/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=ad1ce14114bc9110VgnVCM10000080a3e90aRCRD

You'll probably find it's much faster and cheaper to take the train, just buy the tickets at any Roma train station. See TrenItalia for timetables: http://www.ferroviedellostato.it/cms/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=3fdbe14114bc9110VgnVCM10000080a3e90aRCRD

TAKE THE TRAIN... as any European knows.. the Train is about as fast as flying it.
