Hi there, I've been to Italy a couple of times, there aren't really supermarkets but there are loads of deli's where you can get cheese, salami / ham and bread as well as olives and other antipasto. It is quite inexpensive - you should be able to get enough food for lunch for less than €3-4. Like anywhere you travel try to venture away from the tourist areas where you will pay significantly more than if you go a few streets back. |

There are various supermarket chains in Italy, which have a big selection with cheap and not so cheap food (for example, you can normally choose between packed ham and ham you ask for at the "salumeria"). Names of some supermarkets are: Bennet, Coop, PAM, Conad, Despar, Carrefour... I wouldn't do "traditional" fast food such as Mc Donalds, because in my opinion it's a pity to eat stuff like that in Italy, where you can grab a slice of pizza or a panino on any corner. For 3€ you can get a good panino... check out also on which day of the week the food markets (like with food-stalls...) are, you can get great fruit and veggies for very reasonable prices, but you find also really nice cheeses and "salumi"-- (just make sure you don't buy the "tourist salami"- less for more---) and once you're there you can also check out the clothes and accessories (lots of stuff from China, but you can also find really nice leatherware "made in Italy") |

the food there is not that expensive i went to italy and milan in 1999 and i spent something like 19450 pounds on all my expenses,so i don't think that it would be more expensive than 30000 pounds.Have a great time and go to the hilfigher miniature park it's exciting.make friends, friends, friends!!! |
