How much money should I bring to Italy? |
Please specify whether its euros or the american dollar. I will be there for 5 nights at the end of November. I'll be in Rome for 3 or four nights and then Florence or Venice for 1 night. I will be staying in a friend's dorm for my time in Rome so I wont need a hotel. I want to make sure I have enough to get the most out of my experience. I also like shopping but will try not to spend too much on the clothing front. Thanks for the help! |

If you are going to stay in Florence or outside of Venice, you will need at least 100 euros for a hotel. In Venice count on 200 euros.
You will need about 15 euros / day for admissions to attractions.
In Rome you will need about 5 euros a day to ride the metro.
In Florence or Venice count on 20 euros for a cab (Florence) or train / vaporetto (Venice)
You will need at lest 15 euros a day for food.
You didn't say how you were going to get to Florence or Venice. It should be a little less than 100 euros round trip on the train.
Adding it up:
200 euros for hotel / 1 night.
75 euros for attractions
40 euros for ground transportation
75 euros for food
100 euros for train
On top of that, I'd add 200 euros for spending money / emergency money and round it up to 700 euros. That would be the minimum in my estimation.

How long is a piece of string? It depends on how you want to live! Based on my couple of trips I'd say if you go for 50 euros a day, plus 50 then you'll eat good food and you'll see some beautiful sights. If you want to party/drink hard (as opposed to wine with food) then add up to 50 euros per drinking night. Choose where you eat and drink carefully in Rome, and don't be afraid to check prices carefully before you go in. Sometimes moving off the main street a little can save you a bundle. Public transport is cheap so take advantage of it where you can. And if you love to shop then you need to add whatever you can afford! |
