How much should we budget? |
My husband and I are going to Italy for 10 days in late March. I'm worried we don't have enough saved for the trip. We will be spending 1/2 our time in Rome and 1/2 in Florence. We are looking for a hotel that is reasonable close to the sites, with a private bathroom and no cerfew....but we don't need anything fancy. Really just a clean bed and bathroom. How much should we reasonably budget for this? I feel like I'm lost looking online for a hotel....it's so hard to tell what you are getting and to find exactly what you want. |

With the Euro getting stronger day by day Italy is no at all cheap but by taking a few tricks you can stay here for abt. 10 days without spending a fortune.
Instead of an hotel I would suggest you to chose the"bed and beakfast" formule that has become very popular in these last years. Here is a link for Florence
http://www.bedbreakfasttraveler.com/?bed-and-breakfast-in=Florence%7CItaly
and for Rome
http://www.bed-and-breakfast-in-italy.com/citta.cfm?citta=Roma&IDregione=7
The 2 links can be used also to make crossed reasearches with the other town it 's enough you go back to the home page. Just in case you should need for more pls feel free to email me (click on my profile for my email address...). As to an average cost just for the room let's say abt. 60/70 € (2 px) x 10 days makes € 700.
For yr feeding it will depend on yr habits but I would say € 20 x day at noon (pizza or sandwiches) and 40€ x day for dinner in some trattoria (small restaurants, better you choose them but not in midtown) x 10 days gives further € 600.-
Florence is easy to be walked by feet (the highlights are in the round of 1/3 kms = 1-2 miles) or by the city bus line. Avoid the touristic bus cause they are very expensive.
To visit Rome you may use the metro/subway; it's cheap and you can get special tourist fares. It's well connected with the top sites of the town. Let's say in both towns you'll spend around 10 € a day to move and then in total € 100.-
You need to avoid as much as you can to take taxis cause here in Italy they are much too expensive.
At this point you have to buy tickets for the museums and other sites. This is obviously varying based on how much interested you are. Thickets are rather costly and average should be around € 30 a day x 10 days gives € 300.
For drinks,beverages,ice-creams,etc. consider 20 € a day x 10 days makes € 200 on the whole.
I feel having considered everything. Grand total (x 2 px) is € 1900 that at the current rate is abt. 2500 US dollars.
You should stay rather easily in approx. such an amount.
Enjoy yr next staying in Italy !! |

Pradaplay is pretty close. I just planned a 30 day vacation on Sicily. B&B, rental car, airfare, and play money for two. $10,000.00. |

This is almost impossible to help you with the budget without knowing your habits. But probably $100 per day for hotel, $25-$100 for food (from hotdogs to wine and dine), $50 for entrances plus miscellaneous.
Italy is expensive, particularly with the current Euro/Dollar exchange rate.
Expedia will give you bunches of info on each hotel, don't understand how you can be lost. For example, I found a three star hotel for $76 per night, which should be more than adequate for the needs that you describe.
Book from home to avoid the surprises. Internet booking is usually very reliable. |

As an Italian Destination specialist I can help you secure all arrangements, just contact me. Pricing all depends on when you are going. 4 star first class central hotels can run $200-$300+ p/night depending on the season. When people ask me budgets I always ask with or without airfare? With airfare is safe to assume a 2 week program 4 star basis to cost $3,000-$3,500 p/p. |
