56 Euro in first class and 40 Euro in Second class. This is standard fare. There are a zillion discounted rates.

B the way, I suggest first class. At least you get AC.

I personally wouldn't bother with first class, but I would definitely reserve a seat beforehand (EUR 3) to make sure I had a guaranteed seat. There are lots of different types of trains servicing that route- don't settle for anything less than Intercity!

For full details...you can also book online and make sure to reserve a seat this way you're guaranteed not to be standing for 5 or 6 hours. From what I see a second class ticket is approx 55 Euros.

Search the web. Outside Italy you can buy eurorail passes that have, like, 5k kilometers and they just knock of the total from the trip. They're usually the slow trains, but completely worth it. Especially since once you get somewhere you hear of all sorts of places around it that you can hop the train to for a day trip. If you come with a pass in hand you can do that without waiting in lines for reservations.
