learn some basic italian . not everyone is that keen on english . discover about the local customs and traditions by talking with local people. and remember Italy is not just Pizza Pasta Mafia and it's not always as romantic as they portray it on the tv lol

and just to answer to some other answers below me - we DO get water . And guess what? I know Italians who don't drink wine !

1, You should learn some main frazes such as quanto kosta - that means how much, skuzi - sorry and so on.
2. Be very careful if you decided to drive in the bus. There is a big posibillity to be robbed.
3. try all the main things: coffe(it is best in Neapol), pizza margarita ( also in Neapol), vine, ice cream ( near Trevi fontain) and pasta. If you want to eat inside the caffe you have to pay extra money, so it is better to eat somewhere outside.
4. If you have oportunitty definetly go for a day trip to capri island.
5. There are a lot of churches in Italy so remember to have something to put on, for example a light jacket.
I guess that thoose are the main tasks, have fun and goodluck

And just go with an open spirit. Buon Viaggio

start drinking a lot of red wine. Get your tolerance built up.

Take an Italian language class - seems like you'll have plenty of time to get ready. Study some Italian history - concentrate of the places you will visit.
Pick up an Italian newspaper or better yet take a look at the food site (in Italian) below to get you acquainted with the written language.

Pack some warm, winter clothes and be prepared to walk daily in rain-snow and cold. The weather is terrible that time of year. You will need to walk to restaurants, walk to shops and walk to sites.

Cameron D
Start drinking wine now so you get use to the taste because that is the only liquid you are allowed to drink over there.
