Stan is right. You don't need to buy tickets very far in advance here most of the time - the biggest exception is Easter which just passed. The schedule changes in June and December and it takes a while to get the schedules and prices posted on the website. Typically, you can buy tickets 60 days in advance. with rare exceptions, I just buy tickets on the day I want to travel.

The Trenitalia website is notorious for its unreliability the only way is to try contacting a travel agent or keep on trying the website

Train options from june too october (summertime tabletime) are not yet ready. U can book yr ticket from 14 june or at ticket office or agency.

Between major cities like Rome and Naples you don't need to make reservations and the prices are static so you aren't going to get a break paying as early as possible or waiting until the last minute.

If you are concerned you can stop at the train station a day or two in advance and get tickets at that time. Trenitalia will let you purchase tickets about 50 days in advance.
