How to Travel the Amalfi Coast, Sorrento, Capri and Naples?

Hi, we (2 girls) have approx 5 days to travel the Amalfi Coast all the way to Naples where we fly out from. However, what is the best way to travel the coast? We were told that renting a car is a death wish, another was to do a bus tour however these seem to be super expensive. We are on a tight budget......any suggestions?

I don't agree with the "renting a car is a death wish" statement. I'm an American who has traveled to Italy at least a dozen times and rented a car on the majority of those trips and I'm still alive :-) I've driven the Amalfi coast - twice - without any issues. Of course, you need to be careful and somewhat proficient with a manual transmission. Even if you're not used to the manual, it's not hard to learn...

This region is such a beautiful area of the country that should be explored without the typical 1 hour time limits of your average bus tour.

For short term car rentals (less than 1 week), I've had good luck renting from the Italian company Easy Car Spa (http://www.easycaritalia.it/defaultnew.asp). They charge a flat rate of €29 per day (including the required insurances) for an economy car with unlimited mileage. It doesn't matter what office you pick it up from as long as you return it to the same place. You can also check www.1800flyeurope.com for rates. They usually have cheaper rates if you are renting for longer than 1 week.

Good luck!

u dont want to rent a car because the roads r tight and u need to learn how to drive their first which is time u do not have. Use a ferry, taxi, tour bus, dont forget to try the pizza(do not go to americanized area with alot of tourists u will not see th real italy that way go to eat where there are less tourists to get the real feel of Italia . Trust me i go every summer i speak it and am 100% italian i lne in Naples. It is great u shoulg try the Rabbit at Ischia wich is nezt to capri ,procida, and monte di procida have fun...

You don't need a bus tour...just take the local SITA buses - they're wonderful (and used by locals too) you won't get anywhere faster in a car becasue you will be stuck behind a bus anyway :-) Always fun to rent scooters in Sorrento and get around that way to Amalif/Positano, etc. Take the train to Naples...the ferry to Capri. Have fun!
