How to dress in Italy (per fare la bella figura)? |
My husband and I will be traveling around Italy for 3 weeks in July. I know it will be rather hot, but we would like to dress fashionably yet sensible for travel. I know that we won't necessarily blend in, but we would like to "do as the Romans do" and dress for our environment. What do men commonly wear in Italy in the summer, specifically what types of shoes are popular and stylish?
We are an American couple, 30 years old (and I speak Italian).
Mille grazie... Additional Details Somehow I don't think togas will cut it. Thanks for the laugh though! |

For shoes, Italians wear alot of leather.
Most of them wear high heels, but since your going to be doing alot of walking, you will probably want to wear flats.
To blend in, you want to wear neutral colors, like navy blue, beige, black and so on.
You want to wear shirts that cover your shoulders, and pants to cover your knees, so you can get into all the churches.
American styles like sweat pants and baggy shirts aren't going to cut it in Italy. Italians are very elegant.
Most wear their hair down.
Try to be confident.
and that is all I can think of right now. I'll post later if I remember anything.
Oh, and try to avoid things with bug logos.
Italians think of walking billboards if you wear that. |
