How to go to Venice and Rome at lowest cost from Milan?

Hi friends

My friends and I come from Thailand and will stay in Italy for a week the arrival is at Milan, we will stay here in Milan for a couple days and then we would like to go to another city either Venice or Rome.

Could anyone advice us which city should we visit if we have 3 days left from Milan?

and How to get there with the lowest cost, with bus or train?

Thank you very much!

Best regard

The trains are the best option for travel. If your object is to travel cheaply, then you have a couple of options. One is to stick to the regional trains. This will take longer and may require train changes especially on the way to Rome. There's a regional train from Milan to Venice at 7:25 am that goes all the way to Venice for 14.50 euro. You could also do this by taking a regional train to Verona and changing there to another for Venice.

Another option is to buy tickets in advance for the faster trains. There's a fare called Amica that saves up to 20%, but it isn't available on the day of travel. The Eurocity train to Venice is 25.20 euro at the standard rate, but 20.20 for the same seat at the Amica rate. The standard fare to Rome on the fastest trains is 67.50 euro, the Amica rate is 54 euro. An intercity train to Rome is 33.60 euro at the Amica rate. The cheapest is the night train - you can get seats for 22.80 euro or a berth in a cuchette for 46.80. If you do this, you can sleep on the train through the night and not have to pay for a hotel for that night.

The train, but our trains just suck! The good trains cost a lot, you can catch the Eurostar "Frecciarossa" it's brand new and goes from Milan to Rome.

By train. Timetables avaiable at http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html I guess Rome would be my advice. First of all, head to the Trevi Fountain. The legend is that if you throw a coin into the fountain you will one day return to Rome. It worked for me, if it works for you too you're gonna visit Venice the next time. Piazza Navona has an amazing fountain, and there's nowhere better to sit al fresco with a pizza or a coffee. You'll pay through the nose for it, but you'll feel Italian. The Vatican, of course. The view from St. Peter's Basilica is worth the climb. The museums aren't amazing but the Sistine Chapel is, again, worth it.
My favourite thing to do in Rome is simply to wander around discovering tucked away piazzas. Galleria Borghese and the Borghese gardens. The gallery has an epic collection, and the gardens are lovely to stroll round on a sunny day. In terms of Roman history, The Forum is fantastic. If you can get a guide to it, the ruins will be far more interesting but if not it's still a great walk. The Colesseum is very impressive. And also, the Pantheon. I can suggest this website http://www.scoobit.com and this page dedicated to Rome hotels in particular http://www.scoobit.com/accommodations-rome-hotels.php I stayed at the third hotel on the left. It was a clean, well located and nicely staffed hotel. Not over-priced. It's a safe site. I book hotels through Scoobit.com frequently. You can book on line and there are no booking fees. All the best.
