How to plan my 2 days in Rome?

Wow, only two days, not enough time. Of coarse the Vatican for one day. It will probably take up most of the day as the lines can be very long. Just walking around Rome is amazing. Every time you turn a corner you see all the history. Take a walk to the Spanish Steps and then just keep walking. The black cobble stones that line the street are amazin. Have Fun, It is my all time favorit city.

Focus on the main churches and squares. San Pietro, Santa Maria Maggiore, San Giovanni Laterano. Piazza Navona, Piazza del popolo, Piazza Spagna...
There're a lot of tourist in Rome right now so I don't think is a good idea to go to the Vatican Museums, you spend a lot of time waiting to get in. You can take a map and make a quick division of zones or areas and then go after whatever is in them.

My suggestion is.....
If you are a good walker and it doesn't rain.. see all the main attraction by feet...
going with the underground to Piazza di Spagna...
then from there all by feet until the vatican.
In my opinion the main attraction are:
Piazza di spagna,
Colosseo
Foro Romano
Il Vittoriano (piazza venezia)
Fontana di Trevi
Pantheon
Il Vaticano
there are besides these other beautiful things to see.. but in two days.. is not simple.... It depends also if you are going to see museums or not.....

Depends where you're staying and what you're interested in. I'd recommend the following route which can be split up over two days or so, presuming your starting off point is Via Nazionale or thereabouts (check it on a map). Head down towards the Colloseum and allow about three-quarters of an hour to appreciate it. Also take in the forum, and a walk through the Palatine gardens. Further afield, a jaunt to the Fontana di Trevi is worthwhile (especially at night, when it looks stunning). A little further west from the Trevi fountain, you will find The Pantheon (remember that it is a sacred place and screaming, bare shoulders and excessive photography are all to be strongly discouraged). After having seen the Trevi fountain and probably stopping for lunch at some point in one of the many trattoria around (avoid any which look overly touristy), keep heading west towards Piazza Navona. Campo de Fiori is to the South of Piazza Navona, and is good for bars in the evening. North of Piazza Navona, a short walk will lead you to one of many bridges over the Tiber towards the Vatican City. Worth seeing Castel d'angelo en route.

It's not possible to take in all of Rome in two days, obviously, but I can guarantee that you will return! Absolutely amazing place. Romans are very warm and friendly, and I have been very happy here for a number of years after having moved from England. By the way, there is currently a Renoir retrospective at the Vittoriano (just up the hill from the vulgar 'Wedding Cake' building officially called "Monumento Nazionale a Vittorio Emanuele II". Well worth seeing.

As a side note, although you will find 99.8% of restaurant/shop owners etc speak enough English to get by, a 'grazie, ciao' here, and a 'prego' there will be greatly appreciated. A basic phrase book will make your trip all the more enjoyable.
