Early October is probably the best time of the year to visit Tuscany, especially the hills around Siena.
With a bit of luck you will find sunny days, and the temperature will be warm but not too hot. Bring a sweater and a jacket for the cool evenings.
As the climate is not too hot, it is a great time for wine tasting in the Chianti and Brunello region, and for eating the "bistecca alla fiorentina" (don't miss it if you like meat). Late October is still not too bad, but you are likely to find more rain and lower temperatures.

An average of 55 F at night, and avg 75 F in the daytime; should be sunny most of the time

The weather will be cool but pleasant. It is the same as in Le Marche, my favorite region. Have a nice holiday!

We are going there at the same time. My cousin, who has been there several times says that since they are on the same parallel, the weather is the same as Boston.

It's an amazing place. I've never been there but you can see what it is like for real in the movie "Under the Tuscan sun", which by the way is a very good movie. Good luck!
