I visited these cities with my family. In Rome we stayed in an apartment overlooking the Pantheon - it was very central to the historic places and we could walk to all the major attractions - Vatican, Colosseum, Spanish Steps, Pantheon, Santa Maria Maggiore, etc etc.

In Venice we stayed in a hotel on the Lido and caught the vaporetto across the Lagoon to St Marks and the Doge Palace; we also went right around the Grand Canal in the vaporetto and also over to the island of Murano to see the glassworks.

In Florence, we stayed in a small hotel in the city centre - I think it was called the Hotel Toscano - but there are lots of similar places, all in walking distance to the Accademia to see the David, the Ufizzi Gallery, the Duomo (cathedral), the Ponte Vecchio (Old Bridge over the Arno River) etc etc.

Make sure you have good quality walking shoes.

First of all you should buy a guide because there is so much to see over there that you have to have some ideas about what is most important to you.
For food don't worry because any restaurant you go in will be alright, especially in Rome. All these cities are really expensive and I suggest you to always use the public transportation because cabs cost too much. In Florence you'll be able to walk everywhere and in Venice, too (there are no cars over there) and in Rome you can walk almost anywhere but the distances are much bigger.

Have fun in my beautiful Country. I miss it so much.

Definitely buy Susan Gustafson's (?spelling?) book called "Cheap Eats" in Italy. The title may have changed slightly because it was misleading in that "cheap" has a negative connotation. It doesn't list "cheap" places per se but fantastic family owned restaurants and establishments that are frequented by the locals. The book has 3 sections - one for Rome, one for Florence, and one for Venice. Perfect for you. I've been using this book for years. I can't recommend it enough. (There's also a "Cheap Sleeps")

I just got back from those 3 cities a couple weeks ago!!

Florence: You'll need 2-3 days for Florence. Duomo, Bargello (museum), Santa Croce, Pitti Palace. Stay near the Duomo.

Rome: You'll need 3 days for Rome. Colosseum/Roman Forum, Vatican (whole day), Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps (enjoy a gelato here), various churches. Stay near the Spanish Steps.

Venice: You'll need 2-3 days for Venice. San Marco. Murano island. Stay near the Rialto.

I bought the Rick Steve's books for these 3 cities and it was super helpful. Not cheap but it will give you all the information you need.

If you are staying longer in Florence, consider taking a half day trip to Siena and/or Pisa.

this is very broad question. if u searching for places to visit, just search on net for attractions/ places to see in each city. there are lots of places to see. no of places depend on the time u have available
if u search hotels to stay. book early coz good places are finish early. it happened to me, most of the time i book through roomsnet.com last time i was waited till last minute, they finished hotel rooms when i tried to book.
