I'm going to Italy soon. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get from the Rome airport to our hotel? |
We're not sure if we should take the subway or call a cab company. We'll have significant luggage. We're staying at the Rome Park Marriot Hotel. |

You can take the train to Roma Termini for 11 euro per person. There are taxis available at the station if your hotel is not within walking distance, or there are metro (subway) lines.to get you close. At Fiumcino look for the signs -Stazione FS/Railway Station; it takes about 30 minutes. see: http://goeurope.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?zi=1/XJ&sdn=goeurope&zu=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.trenitalia.it%2Fen%2Ftreni_stazioni%2Ftrasferimenti%2Fleonardo_express02.html
There are private shuttle serivces from either airport to all hotels in Rome. These have the advantage of not requiring multiple transfers, but are more expensive. A couple of examples:

http://www.rome-airport-shuttle.com/
Taxis from the Fiumicino to the center of Rome are about 40 euro.
If you're coming into the Ciampino airport, there's a short bus ride (1 euro) to the train station at the airport to catch the train to the Roma Termini station., or there's a COTRAL bus to the subway, the taxi, or private shuttles. |

It's all about how you want to travel. Cab could cost up to 60+ euro, depending on where your hotel is.
Subway is probably like 2 euro. It's like every other subway in the world, not too difficult to navigate. There's most likely going to be escalators as well.
But, then again, I was 23 when I was there 2 years ago, so I could deal with a lot of luggage. And I was poor. |

hopefully your hotel will have some sort of service, a cab will cost a small fortune and in my experience renting a car has been a nightmare, the lines were insane even though we reserved a car ahead of time, plus gas is just outrageous there. good luck, have fun |

call the hotel and they can have a service pick you up, or you can take the train right into town. There are always cabs at the airport that will drive you anywhere, and they're usually very good at speaking english. There's plenty of ways to get around, but be wary of renting a car, as italian drivers are much different from the usa. |

We got our local travel agent to book us a car to pick us up at the airport. It was great, because by the time we got our luggage (we had a few bags) and reached the exit hall, there was a guy holding out a small hand-carried board with our names (inclusive of our surname/family name). By doing this (which is making prior arrangement with our local travel agent on the airport tranfer), we got to our hotel without the hassle of looking out for a taxi. Just for your info, the roads leading to Rome city can be quite jammed up (depending on the time of the day). Good luck and have a wonderful time in Rome. We had a fantastic time in Rome. A word of advice - Do avoid using the subway in Rome! Some of our friends got their wallet/PDA phone and mini-size digital camera taken/stolen via Rome's infamous pick-pockets - especially in the subway train. We would recommend that you take a cab, bus (if not crowded) or just walk while in the city. |
