hi,
Napoli is my home town, I used to live there for 11 years of my life and I still often go on summer when I want to escape UK wheather :)
Don't: go in rough areas or areas that you're not sure about. They can be quite dangerous and sometimes in town centre. Like the area called "quartieri spagnoli" it's pretty bad for people that is not local and it's just in the centre behind a very rich area...so just be careful about this.
If you will visit crowded places, markets, but also buses and subway...don't bring your wallet and passport...bring with you just the money you need for the day.
Do:...Napoli is the most amazing city in the world to me! People is always very warm and smiley and welcoming. Also, every streets tells you a story: you can find plenty of artistic places to visit but I would definetly reccomend not to miss: the area of Port'Alba (Piazza Dante subway stop), with the best and most ancient pizza restaurant in Napoli but also with the close area of San Gregorio Armeno. Here you can visit "Cappella San Severo" (a place full of mistery...discover the legend of an achemist experiments...), ancient churches with scary surprises in the basement..(look for "Chiesa delle anime del purgatorio") , Santa Chiara church and much more.
Do not miss the museum (Museo Nazionale and Museo di Capodimonte).
My favourite spot in Napoli is the view from the San Martino fortress. Amazing. Also visit the castles: Castel dell'Ovo (literally meaning "egg's castle" , because of a curious legend...) and the Maschio Angioino.
Don't miss the sea side of course! If you have time visit Ischia, Sapri and the Amalfi coast...just gorgeous!
Enjoy your trip and send a kiss to my beautiful town :) |

Learn a bit of the language and don't behave like an American. That way you'll be treated as a guest rather than a tourist.
Accepted wisdom is that petty crime is rife especially in the tourist area and round the docks. I've never had any problems, but then I'm taller than most Neapolitans. |

don't even think about going around the suburbs by yourself, it's dangerous!!!!! you'd better not go there with other people, though. and do try pizza and ice-cream, they taste delicious!!!! I'm Italian and I know something about this...have a nice time!!!!!!!! =) |

Hi I am Roberta and I'm from Napoli...Napoli is an amazing city you have to visited all the castles and museums, try pizza and also espresso; go in a fish restaurant (if you can in Via Caracciolo so you can eat a lovely food and also see a wonderful landscape); if you are between 18 and 30 years old, the saturday night go in Piazza del Gesù (Jesus' Square) for some cheap cocktails...there you can also find a lot of little place with different kind of music; In Napoli you can also find some parks some as Virgiliano in Via Posillipo that is one of the most beautiful...If you can go around you have to go on the costs: Sorrento, Positano and Amalfi will take your breath away...there are so many things to do in a city like Naples, you can't be bored!!!Of course you have to be carefull but bealieve you have to be just intelligent:don't show your money, take your camera and other staff like this always with you and if you have the possibility to stay with Napolitans is better...I hope you enjoy yourself...and if you can let me know when you comeback home....I know you will miss my town!!! Bye |

We were warned about the pick-pocketers. So keep you valuables in a pouch around your waist and under your shirt, or around your neck. Stay in a group if possible. |

yeah sorry to say this before you go and holiday but rape and pickpocketing are big issues. Also so you know the pickpockets use children to keep you busy as they take your stuff and dont take it too heart if italian guys whistle atyou (if you;re a girl) it doesnt mean anything, just italian culture(or os the internet says :]). |
