The Vatican, The Colliseum, The Ancient Forum, Trevi Fountain ....I highly recommend taking an organized tour of ancient Rome...I went on one in '99 when I was backpacking with a friend and it was one of my best experiences in Europe...There are tours of Ancient Rome as well as the Vatican...the benefit is that someone can guide you through the sites and give you lots of information and you don't have to worry about missing anything important or navigating yourself.
