the hotel porta maggiore and the regency hotel are good value for money. i have stayed in both and nothing fancy but handy for getting around. if you need tips, i have been loads of times, even got married there.

That won't be the time to be cheap. You get what you pay for.

the acedemeia hotel (not sure of i spelt it right!!) was about average not sure for 2 weeks though you might better staying outside of Rome or getting san apartment. this hotle is literally next to the trvi fountain which is amazing. please mind your money though got robbed while we where there and its well known for this so people aren't very interested. but it is one amazing place i loved it

Check out the Hotel Mariano. It's near the Termini, which has a bad reputation, but we felt perfectly safe the whole time. The rate online in English is more than if you call. Our room had 1 single bed, 1 double bed and a dresser that turned into another singel bed. I know it sounds odd, but that's the way it worked. Nice travertine floors, and the bathroom was the best we had in Italy total. It was gorgeous, small, but at least the water pressure was great, the shower large enough to turn around in and multiple jets. The breakfast was decent, not the best we had, but still substansial. The staff was not as kind or generous as the rest the hotels we stayed in during our trip, but they were still helpful. No mini bar or fridge, and a small TV, but overall worth it. If you are going off season, not summer, you should be able to get a room for about $70 a night.
