I am looking to go and see the Milan derby at the San Siro next season, Is it safe to go?

The reason I ask is because I live in the UK and will be travelling over to italy to see the match so I'll be a foreigner. I've seen some really good package deals (redcardevents.com) which include return flight tickets, match tickets and hotel. I've started saving money up for the trip but when I told my friends about it last week they said it's unsafe.

I hate to say it now but I'm starting to have second thoughts about it. I was really looking forward to it as well as it would be an incredible experience. Could someone please advise me on what i should do.

Is it actually safe??

Milan is a lovely, fashionable city. It is as safe as any large city, which is to say that you should take common sense precautions: don't flash money around, know where you are going, use cabs at night if you are alone.

As for the match, again, use common sense: Don't get drunk; if a fight breaks out, walk away from it. If you are making your arrangements through a packaged deal, it would be nice if you meet others who are doing the same -- the buddy system is safer than alone, and at a sporting event it is sometimes just more fun, too.

I'm sorry that your friends are discouraging you. Chalk it up to the fact that some people never feel safe unless they are at home.

I'm an American who travels in Western and Eastern Europe about 6 months each year. Milan will not be a problem for you. You will find the people courteous and helpful -- and you won't have any problem if you don't speak Italian (although you may want to learn a little, because it's fun to give it a go and it's a beautiful language).

Keep to your plan: save up and go! Show your friends what someone with some gumption and sense of adventure can do!

i saw many matches in san siro i think the derby is the safer match...there is a lot of competition but is just the atmosphere and it s really suggestive.
don't miss it!

It's safe, especially since they have way better security in all the soccer stadiums ever since what happend a while back.
