I am planning our honeymoon to Sorrento/Positano in mid/late October? Is this a good time to visit?Suggestions?

We were thinking of doing Rome, Sorrento, Capri, and Positano, but have heard Almafi coast is shut down this time of year? Is this true? Will it be cold?

It's definitely not the high season, so opening hours will be shorter and transportation connections will be fewer. I had some problems getting around by boat in mid-April because it was low season. It won't be freezing but it won't be beach weather either. If you want to visit Italy at that time of year, I suggest choosing cities for cultural reasons, rather than their beaches. You could divide most of your time between Florence and Rome, and instead of vising the Amalfi Coast you could spend a few nights at an agriturismo (farm/vineyard hotel) in the Tuscan countryside, and maybe do a vineyard tour in the area.

The Rick Steve's Travel Guide is excellent because it focuses on a few areas but really goes into depth. Check his Italy 2006 book, as well as his 2006 books for Florence/Tuscany and Rome.

it could be kind of cold in october besides days are shorter due to the changing of time...if i were you i anticipate to september, if you can't the best months to visit italy would be may and june...you'd save 50%

if you need further assistance contact me i live near venice...

I was there last October arround the 8th and it was great! It was nice enough to go into the water. I was in Rome, Sorrento and Positano. When you are in Positano I must recommend this restaurant Il Saraceno D'Oro its on Viale Pasitea 254. I found it walking arround, and when I looked in my guide book it was recommended.
