Take the train to the Finale Ligure Marina station. It's only 4.40 euro for a 2nd class ticket (6.60 1st class). The travel time is an hour to an hour and a half. There are also Intercity trains that cost about 2 euro more, but get there in 45 minutes.
You can check specific schedules and prices at: http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html.

The transport system in Italy is excellent, especially around Airports and Cities. The train is very reliable and cheap, but so is the bus. They are almost always on time and very clean. It would save money not hiring a car and probably time!
