I am travelling to Sardinia with a 10 month old baby? |
I am travelling to Sardinia (approx 1.5kms from Alghero) and wondered whether anyone could advise me whether it is easily accessible to obtain Pampers nappies, baby milk, food etc? Additional Details I just don't want to travel there without taking provisions if it is not accessible for me to get what I need. I have never been abroad with a baby before so have never looked to see if essentials are stocked. |

i dont know about sardinia but in italy in general pampers nappies are widely available, but it's hardly the end of the world if the child doesn't have pampers is it? baby milk is different over there, so bring your own, you cant get sma or cow and gate. not sure about the milupa one, i think i could have seen that over there but you shouldnt change the brand of milk anyway so i recommend bringing your own powder. as for the little jars of food, they have a huge variety, the one i used to buy is called plasmon and their little fruit jars are lovely. all i would bring is the milk. you can get the rest of the stuff in supermarkets or chemists and some small shops. i just googled and there are apparently 3 supermarkets in alghero so you should be fine. (www.google.it) then (supermercato alghero) and the first one gives you a google map with them located on it. |

I live in Italy and have a 26-month-old son. I can assure you that you can find all modern baby supplies here including in Sardinia. You should only have to carry the supplies that you will need for the trip.
The only issue may be if you need certain brands, particularly as it relates to baby milk and food. For diapers, Pampers and Huggies are available as well as local brands. If you baby needs to eat special foods/has special formula you may need to check with the manufacturer to see if it is available. I can tell you that among the easier to find brands here are Plasmon and Nipiol.
Also note that baby formula, food and supplies are available in grocery stores but also in pharmacies here in Italy. Sometimes, believe it or not, pharmacies have a better selection and better prices. (Although, I will warn you that prices for these things in Italy tend to be much more than in the rest of Europe, so be prepared to pay more.)
*****Just a note to some of the other respondents: I'm American and live in Italy. I travel with my son to the states and still worry about being able to find supplies for him -- one never knows if what you normally use for your baby is going to be accessible to you in places you've never been. Moms need to worry about these things when they travel, especially to a place where you may not speak the language -- those of you who have criticized this mother for asking the question, evidently aren't parents yourself. Also, just to note, the asker is probably not American as you have assumed, but more likely British as Americans say diapers and British say nappies. |

One Website says there are grocery stores there (DUH!)
"Grocery stores and restaurants are only a few minutes’ drive away in Torre delle Stelle. Other shopping venues include a weekly outdoor market as well as a large selection of restaurants, all in Villasimius, a picturesque seaside village only 10 kilometres away that also has a town square, church and marina. Sardinia’s capital city of Cagliari is only a half-hour drive away and there you can find quality distractions from Geremeas’ more natural lifestyle."
I don't know why people are so critical. I am assuming that you are not traveling to Sardinia alone with a baby, in order to be a simple tourist. Am I right? Geez! It's none of my business where you are going and why.
I hope you ahve a great trip and get whatever situation is driving you there resolved in a very positive and calm manner. |

this is my opinion. you do not even have to like it. it is crazy to travel around the world with a baby. nobody wants to listen to them crying on the plane and you will realize that it is a huge drag taking care of the baby. it will be hard for you to enjoy your trip. on the other hand, these days many people bring baby-sitters with them on trip. it can be expensive though. your best bet to having a good trip is either bringing a sitter or not bringing the baby. |

most likely not because sardinia is the island where they take criminals or prisinors from the actual country of italy, and there are very few nice places so yea not only will the recourses be low but u have a great chance of being kidnapped and stuff |
