I found some 1970 Italian coins, can I still use them when I go to Italy this summer?

no because the coins you own are Liras, in Italy we use Euro now...

No way you can use them. Lira is no longer current in Italy.
You may keep them just as a souvenir since they are very common coins (a few ten of millions of pieces had been struck in those years '70) and they don't have absolutely any numismatic value in the collectors' market (and by considering the ugly availability of these coins don't expect it will happen in future....!!). Also they cannot be changed into Euro since Italy's Central Bank (Banca d'Italia) is accepting to convert till Feb. 29th, 2012 only the Lira's banknotes and not at all Lira's coins.

You'll have to change them to Euros.

The Bank of Italy (any branch) will exchange them for you. By law they have to provide the exchange until 2010.

no - they're lira, and Italy now uses the Euro. They're also basically worthless.

Hey, wake up...and smell the coffee...we've got euro since 2001

Rick
No. Italy has the EURO now and the coins are worthless monetarily, however, you can keep them and one day they will be collectors items. Not only do they not make the coins anymore, but they also don't make the currency anymore.
Enjoy Italy. It is hot and beautiful in the summer with lots of gorgeous women everywhere.

no... we got the euros just recently...... the banks may still be able to convert them for you!!!! ( the euros is eaisier for the American people to use- my American friends say anyways) have fun!!!

What???? Absolutely not, now we got the euro and there's nothing else you can pay with. Anyway keep the coins you got, they could become valuable in the future. Have a nice holiday.

Italy has converted to the Euro, try taking the coins to a coin shop to sell.
