I'm Italian and as some people have already said, 9 days aren't enough to completely visit neither just one city. To completely visit all what Rome has to offer, for example, you'd need at least a whole month. Anyway, it's all about what you want to do, cause if you just want to see the main monuments they could be enough to visit at least Rome and Venice. I think that it would be better to focus just on one city, so that you'll have REALLY visited it at the end of your trip. Most of all, it would allow you to take all the time you want to see what you want to see more, without getting stressed due to the hurry. I ask you sorry if I've made any mistake writing this answer. Enjoy your trip and my country. :D

It's possible but Italy is so wide and stunning that it would probably take a person a month to fully experience it's beauty.

In only 9 days you can BARELY visit a whole city! It takes years and years and years to visit the major italian cities in a proper way!! I suggest visiting only one city... Maybe Florence or Siena =)

Have fun while you're there. I went year and spent about a week there. It's unlikely you will be able to see it all so just make a list and decide what you want to see the most. Some of my favorites were Mt. Pompeii, Trevi Fountain, the tomb of Julius Caesar and St. Peter's Basilica, MichelAngelo's David in a Florence museum.

P.S, If you like ice cream you will love the gelato there its delicious! They sell gelato everywhere in tourist spots.

Nine days is not a lot of time, perhaps enough to see 2 or 3 cities, perhaps Rome, Florence and Venice. Suggest you get a guidebook to Italy, look at the cities you are most interested in and go from there.

Don't forget that travelling between cities can take up to a day, so you'll need to include that in your calculations.

zork
No. You would better employ your time focusing on one city or area, and also narrowing down depending on your interests. Are you after breathtaking natural landscapes? Then my top three is
1) Amalfi coast
2) Siena hills
3) Cinque Terre
Are you more interested in monuments, arts and historical sites?
Then choose Rome, Florence or Venice. Don't forget the wine.

I only had 6 days in Italy and I was able to see everything:

Started in Venice to Florence to Rome. I saw all the major attractions by way of bus and taxi. Only thing I missed out on was the leaning tower of Pisa (which I heard is barely leaning since they adjusted it for safety reasons)

Nicole
Yes. I'm 15, and went there over the summer with my friend and her family. We stayed there for a week and saw everything (in Florence, Vinchi, and Rome.) And had a day to relax at our villa. You should be just fine!

I PROMISE YOU, THE TME WILL PASS FASTER THAN YOU COULD EVER IMAGINE, LIKE SEEING ALL OF DISNEYLAND IN AN HOUR. SOAK IT ALL IN, WHAT A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE IT WAS FOR OUR HONEYMOON TO SPEND TWO WEEKS THERE. WE EVEN ENDED UP GOING INTO FRANCE. MEMORIES FOR ALL TIME. ENJOY.
