Sounds like you are arriving from a cruise ship... When we stopped in Naples from our cruise, we rented a car and drove to the Amalfi Coast. Sorrento, Positano, and Ravello are absolutely breathtaking and better toured at your own pace - not a sightseeing bus. We were able to do this in the 8 hours or so that we had from our cruise.

There are a lot of things to see in Rome but you definately have to see Scavi. This is a not so known tour that I think is one of the best in all Rome. This is the ancient Rome, where it is believed that Saint Peter was buried but later moved to a different location. All these excavations are directly under the vatican. I went a couple of years ago and was really impressed. I think now a days they are charging $10 dollars but is is worth it. You should make reservations before you go because they only allow a certain amount of people per day. The entrance is on the left side of the basilica where there are some guards dressed in yellow/orange attire. Hope you enjoy.

Definitely go to the Coliseum and see an authentic gladiator battle. You never know true entertainment until a man's severed head lands in your lap. I stapled it to the bulletin board in my room to remind me of my trip to Rome.

In Naples, I plan on hitting the area known as SpaccaNapoli for the food and scene. Also, the Castel dell Ovo is where I will view the Mediterranean Sea.
