I have an usa passport do a need a visa to go to Rome for a week?
No. No visas are required by Americans travelling to Italy or Italians travelling to the US. I just came back to Italy from a vacation in the US and did not require a visa to visit.

No, you dont need a visa, only your US Passport and a Photo ID. Is very important that before you left the US you check your passport expiration date. Enjoy your trip, Italy is the most wonderful country and the guys are the most sexiest and awesome of all Europe.

No. You are covered under the current visa waiver agreement.
However for how much longer?
Homeland security is making travel to us Europeans much more difficult. It's only a matter of time before this is reciprocated.
