I heard the plugs (like for phones & internet) were different in europe...is this true? |
ok so me and my best friend lishanna are graduating this year. so we decided over the summer to take a tour in europe. We will be going to: Rome, Venice, Florence, Assisi, Pompeii, Sorrento, Bari, Patras, Olympia, Delphi, and Athens. But i heard each country in europe has different plugs like the ones in the walls that we use to charge our phones, ipods, laptops, cameras, etc. is this true? and if so how are we supposed to charge all of our electronics? |

My macbook came with a warning label not to recharge the battery, even while using a converter, in europe. I used a converter for my hairdryer, and on low setting it almost burnt out the element. My sister's battery charger cooked a set of rechargable batteries in two weeks in france.
You can buy converter packs that contain all the different plug ends you will need.
Take only the bare minimum, and don't leave the chargers plugged in over night, or when you are away. Keep an eye on things while charging, and disconnect them as soon as they are done. Watch out that they don't get hot while charging. Our ipods survived, but we were really careful.
Check that your phones have the right sim cards, the ones from north america don't always work there. You will also get charged horrible prices per minute if you use your own phone, up to $5 or more per minute. Better to get a throw away phone for emergency use while you are on your trip if you need one.
We didn't bother with phones and used the hotel computers to check emails.
You only want to take one suitcase that is not too heavy anyway, so you won't have room for too much extra stuff. And you need to leave room in the suitcase to bring home the stuff you buy there. |

Yes this is true, not every country is different but there are several variations of European plugs. You need to buy an adapter kit- here is a link to a good inexpensive kit
( http://www.photonlight.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=MHS-TC400&Source=feed__Google_Base )
Blow dryers in the US run on different voltage than in the Europe- You will want to buy an inexpensive one over there. I know that seems like trouble but the voltage is a lot higher there and can seriously injure you if you try to use a USA blow dryer
Have a great time! it sounds like an amazing trip |

it is true... you can go to phone stores and they have things that plug into your chargers so you can plug them in in europe. |

In which country did you buy your electronics? If in the States, you need a voltage converter adapter, since the voltage is different in the two continents. If in the UK, you just need a plug adapter .
Italy, in particular is different from the 'usual' European plug. The socket is often with 3 thin wholes so you cannot plug the European with the 2 thick spines. You need to get an ADATTATORE, available also in supermarkets.
