I don't think there is a single bus from Rome to Bolzano. You should take the train. There are a couple of trains that will take you all the way and other options connecting in Bologna or Verona. One good option is the night train. It leaves Roma Tiburtina station at 10:05 pm and arrives in Bolzano at 8:43 the next morning. It takes longer than the day trains, but that gives you a full night's sleep while you're traveling and you won't also need to pay for a hotel for that night. The standard fare for a berth in a 4 bed compartment is 64.90 euro, but if you book in advance, you can get the same for 51.90 at the Amica fare.

I suggest you to catch the train ..

I have traveled from Naples (via Rome) to Bolzano. Use TrenItalia. I don't think there are any buses between the 2 cities.

The train usually takes about 6-7 hours.

Sabrina
There is no chance to go from Roma to Bolzano by bus. You need to catch the train. There is a direct connection from Roma to Verona Porta Nuova (once or twice a day, otherwise you have to exchange more trains, in Firenze or Bologna), then you need to exchange trains (in Verona Porta Nuova) and catch another train to Bolzano. Be careful when you exchange train in Verona, the direction of the train to Bolzano could be either Fortezza, or Brennero, or Munchen. And remember to stamp your ticket before getting in the train, else you'll get a fine...

By the way, you can find information about trains here:
