camping? My in-laws live in England and they always go camping in France with their kids every summer. Not my cup of tea, but there you go.

Bring a tent, most places have camping, or buy a euro rail pass, then take only long distance trains through the night. This way you can sleep on the train free. I would reccomend camping though, a tent is light weight and ususally there are showers on site.

Depends on the area you go but in some places you can rent a flat (apartment) or house.

Make sure to check out Twizi.com, it lists places to stay for less than 25 dollars all over the world, whether it's a hotel, hostel, or campsite, or guesthouse.
