I suddenly got a wild hair and want to move to Venice, Italy. how do i go about finding a place to live? |
I've been there and i loved it! however when i tried to start looking for rental properties that were to actually live in not just for vacation, and i couldn't find anything. where should i look for an apartment to rent? also where can i look for jobs online? I've tried craigslist, but i don't think that europe has it down quite as well as san francisco just yet. are there any other info sites i could check out? Additional Details no offence, but please don't worry about my financial, or employment status. i've got it covered... i just need advice on places for me to look, so i know i'm getting the best deals. |

You can start with sites like these: http://www.risorseimmobiliari.it/immobili/appartamento_venezia.asp. http://venezia.bakeca.it/case-0?appartamenti, http://www.idealista.it/pagina/buscar?ubicacion=VE-XXX-XX-XXX-XX-XXX&gclid=CLuK44Ldz5YCFQVKtAodDnCe2A, http://www.casa.it/venezia/venezia.htm. There are properties both for sale and to rent.
You do need to pay attention to what the others are telling you though. In order for you too stay more than 90 days, you need a visa. If you're a citizen of the US it's illegal for you to work here unless the visa you get permits it. You have to have a work permit to get the visa. The employer has to submit the paperwork to the government to apply for the work permit. Therefore, you need to have a job lined up before you move. You could also get a visa that allows you to live here without working if you have sufficient financial resources. There's visa information here: http://www.esteri.it/visti/index_eng.asp When I went through the process it took about 8 months for all the paperwork to be in place so I could go to the consulate to apply for the visa. |

If you're an EU national, it's much easier to move to another EU country, but you will need recognised qualifications. Much harder for non-EU nationals to move in, qualifications are a must, but at the moment residency/work permits are thin on the ground due to economic slowdown worldwide.
Very few people actually live in Venice anymore, because it's so expensive. But it would be better to learn Italian before going, if you don't already have it, and find a property rental place that specialises in rental in Venice. I don't fancy your chances unless you have a lot of cash to throw at people - Venetians are very proud of their city and while they welcome visitors, they do prefer most of them to remain visitors and not become residents. |

try Lido area. you should be able to search online.
If you want to find a job there, you should be able to speak good italian, and as what other answerers said, if you are from a country which is not EU, it's not easy. But good luck with it anyway. |

Most all countries require that you have a job offer before you get there. And there are laws about moving there.Thailand, for example requires that you have $20,000 in savings/ and / or a monthly income of about $1,500 (pension, or whatever ) It's not going to be like moving from New York to Texas. |

You HAVE work? How did you do it? I'm jealous!
Try searching "venice". I'll bet when you do, you'll get a bunch of ads along the sides and bottom of the pages...just start clicking on them. I'm sure you'll figure out how to find long term rentals. You probably also know what part of town to look in and all, since you have been there.
Good luck!
(take me with you? I'm learning to speak Italian). |
