I willbe having an 8-hour layover in Italy; what can i do in that time so i can say i saw Italy? |
How quick could i get out of the airport? how easy is it to find transportation? I'll have a toddler with me so i don't want to sit in the airport for 8 hours. |

I think it will be a bigger hassle travelling inside the city with a kid and then commuting back to the airport...
I know 8 hrs is a long time but you can think of something to do.. |

It totally depends on which airport you are going to--either Ciampino or the main international airport. If you have limited time and you want to see "essential" Rome, go to the Coliseum (it's probably Rome's most recognizeable attraction, famous everywhere!) and the Roman Forum (right next to it). Have fun! |

Hi,
Italy is a big place - which city are you flying into?

Try to be more specific, which airport? what time of day ? what day of the week? Are you alone or have family (small children) with you? |

Which airport ? Italy isn't a city, it's a country.
There is adequate public transport from all airports to their associated cities. Use your eyes, use your tongue. Ask, and you'll find yourself enjoying the experience. |

Get out of the airport, get in a cab (the italian for taxi is taxi) and ask for a quick tour. be back in the airport at least 2 hours before your flight.
I am sorry I can not be more specific, but you didn't say which city you will be flying into. |

Should you have, lucky of you, unlimited budget I have found what should suit you (links).
Otherwise my best and honest suggestion is: stay in the airport. If it's a major one (Milan or Rome) you'll find plenty of ways to spend your time. Shops and boutiques, bars and restaurants. It's hot summer now: you won't regret visiting Italy by postcards and souvenir. And you might think about coming back again for longer! |

Assuming you will be flying in and out of a major international airport, there are 2: Milano Malpensa or Rome Fiumicino.
Not good. From Malpensa, it takes about 1 to 1 1/2 hour to get in Milano (100 euros, about 130 US). Distance is short, but traffic not good at all, and highways unpleasant. Then, you are still left with "what to do for 2 hours in a city you don't know".
From Fiumicino, you are not doing good either...
Having travelled with children and jetlagged toddlers, I would strongly suggest checking in for the day in the airport hotel, or in a closeby one with a pool. I am referring a couple of sites with hotels close by. Pack a swimming suit, have a swim, rest a bit, get a nap, and be back to the airport refreshed!!! |
