Google Earth
It is AWESOME
Go to Google, and click on Download Google Earth.
they have satellite photographs of the whole planet, with most cities shown in very high resolution.
Alternatively you can use a map view.
Either way, you can navigate around it and zoom in or out as you want.
At maximum resolution (where they have the highest resolution), you can actually see cars outside your houses.

Use Google Earth. You have to download the program first. For Mac users, there is actually one for you, too. The program that shows with the best resolution costs money, but you can download one with less resolution for free. Even the free one shows great shots of Venice. You can't see cracks on the sidewalk, but you can see all of the buildings, the gran canale, the bridges, etc...

ASRoma
Maureen is right. Google Earth is what you want. Also when you check Venice out, make sure you check out the islands of Morano and Borano. They are a must take when in Venice!
