I would recommend the south either, Puglia, Reggio Calabria or Sicily.
It might not be hot but will still be warm.

GO SOUTH. The North of Italy is far too cool in October, and this Winter it's supposed to be even colder than usual .

Al M
I'm with those who suggest you head south.

September is generally fine: sunny and pleasantly warm. October can be a bit changeable and it does start to get a bit cooler.

You may be fine, weather-wise, in Rimini or just about anywhere else in Italy during the time you're here in October, but I think the odds are better of getting more sun the further south you go, so Sicily is probably a good suggestion if your main priority is sun and warmth.

Clarybel
SARDINIA...I'm from Sardinia and I think it will be a beautiful place to stay for a holiday...Rimini is more expensive than Sardinia and the sea isn't very beautiful like Sardinia

Sicily or Pantelleria, the extreme South but...of corse You cannot find a so hot sun like in Summer...I believe that the average temperature will be 20/25 °C

Claudio C
If you want the sun, Rimini may be sunny in September but usually not in October. Southern Italy (Campania, Puglia, Calabria) is warmer, and Sicily is the warmest and the sunniest region. In Sicily you can bathe until the end of October, it may rain some day, but on the average the weather of Southern Italy in October is better than in other european countries in July and August.

If you come in Sicily you'll find sun util october.
It's fantastic in minor island.
I suggest you Favignana island in Egadi Archipelag. The sea is fantastic with beatiful beaches and rocks.
It's the paradise for diving.
In that period the price of the apartment are cheap (about 17-20 pounds (20-25 Euros) for day. I can suggest you someone good where I usually go.

The Adriatic coast of Italy, which does include Rimini. I once went in October and it was wonderful. It was still really warm but not too hot.
