Palermo is very nice. It is a very particular place. It has italian, greek, arab, french and spanish roots and shares all these cultures. You will find totally different areas of the town, some very rich of charme and history, some poor and slum.
When in Palermo you have to mix all together.
If you have the chance to use a car, go to San Vito lo Capo (TP) that is 1 hour and a half driving west from Palermo and have a bath on the faboulous beach of Riserva dell Zingaro (natural reserve just 15 min from San Vito lo Capo village), this is probably one of the best places in Sicily. There you can sleep at the Kalura bed and breakfast, just 3 min. from San Vito lo Capo ( I really suggest you !!!!!)

I was in Palermo 2 years ago and really loved the place. It has a real energy about it that is not like any other place I have been too. The main square is the Piazza Bellini and is where most of the action is at. There is a 12th century church there the San Catoldo which is worth a look. The Palatine Chapel is also amazing. The markets are awesome in Plaermo especially for fresh seafood but just going there to people watch is great. The vendors sing about their products and can be quite funny. Have fun - you will love it.
