Hello, here is an italian girl from Milano.
Clubs here are a lot, and different ones.
For guys: you can't enter some clubs if you are not wearing particular clothes (you should wear shirt and no jeans for male, and formal shoes for both). Especially in Milano fashion is really important...
and usually girls are wearing short skirts, high heels..
I would buy clothes here in italy; if you are going in big towns like Milano, Roma, Firenze pay attention to shops: some streets are "for tourists only": they are making you pay a lot for normal things, but you can find not expensive shops also.
Food: we are really proud of our food, normally you should eat a first plate (pasta or risotto) and then a second plate (but it is okay also if you only eat a salad).
it is not that fattening, if you are not eating too much bread and pasta!
Pay attention to coffee: cappuccino only till about 10 in the morning, with a croissant, not after.
Never ask for a Cappuccino after lunch, it's incredibly not-italian!
Then there is the Aperitivo, also: from 7pm to 9pm in some bars, pubs you can eat for free things like pizza, pasta, other things on a table, if you are paying for a cocktail. It is cheap (5€) and you can eat as much as you can.
The water is really cold, also in Sicilia. But I swam in the sea during that period in the north, so maybe if there is the sun you can have a short swim.
I hope my answer is okay, and I am also apologizing for my english =S |

well I'm gonna assume you are American. As an American the main difference i find is that over here the exaggeratedly OVER dress in clubs, it seems that to show off is part of the fun, so, I'd advice you to be as fashionable as you can (of course Italian fashion NOT American fashion) About the weather i don't know exactly where you're gonna be but in march the weather should be mild-coldish in most of the country. Italian food can be very fattening, specially sweets like cannoli but those few extra pounds you might get are completely worth it! HAVE FUN |

PLEASE DO NOT WEAR FLIP FLOPS IN THE CITY....or out at night!.. look around you for fashion advise, ques, look at store windows and at what people are wearing.. then adopt your own style!!
good places to go shopping in Milano is Corso Buenos Aires.. the shops are great and you don't pay tourist prices like you would around il duomo..
most of all HAVE FUN!!! |

Personally I wouldn't bring a lot of clothes, I'd do all my shopping over there! The style will be very different from what you wear now. Get yourself 3 or 4 outfits at least and you'll set trends when you return! The clubs were discos when I was there. The food is fattening if you eat too much. The ice cream is to die for. If you're eating out for every meal you'll find that you're expected to eat a first and second plate-course for lunch and supper. The first plate is pasta (the serving isn't so big that you won't have room left over) and the second course is usually a meat dish. Salad is served last, just before dessert, the dressing is oil and vinegar (put your oil on first then the vinegar next) or what we know as French dressing. My Dad order Zuppa Inglese once (English soup) well we laughed when they brought out trifle! Some restaurants have English translations to help.
Sometimes making eye contact with a man will bring unwanted attention, and yes they like to pinch. First time I got pinched over there, I turned to see who did it and it was a Carabinieri (police)! He was the only one behind us and he just kept on walking away!
You asked about the water temp. I wouldn't go swimming even if you are in the south! Way too cold.
Hope all this helps, have a great time! |
