Your question is impossible to answer intelligently without knowing a lot more about you.
Such as:
Are you a citizen of the EU or from another country (this affects your right to move to Italy in the first place)? How's your Italian? What's your budget? Are you retired or have some other certain source of income, or are you hoping to find work in Italy? How old are you? Do you have any chronic medical conditions? Are you single, or is there a Significant Other in your life and what does he/she want and need to find in Italy? What sort of environment do you want to live in? Big city? Town? Village? Country farmhouse? What sort of climate are you looking for? Do you enjoy the heat you can get in the far south? Could you tolerate the fogs and chill that you can get in the Po basin in the north? Do you want to live in a place where you can count on getting some snow every winter, or do you want to avoid that at any cost?
If you're serious about moving to Italy, I suggest you take advantage of some of the on-line forums used by expats and non-Italians with homes in Italy. Below are a couple. |

don's spot on..
i've lived here in south italy for the last three years. my wife is italian, we met in england and decided to move back to italy for a quieter lifestyle. quiet it is but it's also very hard. after 3 years i still have not found a steady job, the prices of everything have shot up and making ends meet has become increasingly difficult.
if i had come here on my own i'd of packed my bags and left long ago
if you've already found work you'll be fine if not expect an uphill struggle, not only with finding work but also with getting your residency and codice fiscale (italy's NI number)
i don't live in the city but in a tiny mountain top village. i cannot comment on life in the north as it's very different to where i live |

It depends, Rome is wonderful. But soooo expensive. Rome is good if you like the city. Florence is beautiful. One thing u should kno about Rome is that watch out for your pockets any jypsie will try to get your wallet or any valubles. Venice is beautiful, but not so much for working. If you want to work for expensive designer companies...go to florence it is beautiful, but has all the shopping and cite seeing u could ever need. |

Hi!
Living in Italy is "hard" now. The reasons? Unemployment, high cost of living, high apartments rents ( the rents are high), the fuel or gas, as Americans say, is not high, it's very high! then add the insurance for the car, the bills ( telephone, "light"-electricity ( Italy has to import energy from abroad because there aren't nuclear industries so it's expensive), and also going out with friends, at the cinema or pub or bar etc. can be expensive ( not to mention restaurants...)
If you are a militar and you are moving to an American military base it may be different, however I think it's hard for them too, even if they have "benefits" because of their position...for ex. the Euro is higher than the $ so for an American tourist the change is not very advantageous.
However Italy is a beautiful country and I hope you'll have a wonderful time! Bye! |

Why would you move to Italy for it's a pretty hard life just to make ends meat if you can find a job, because unemployment is very high and most people have hard time unless you have some kind of degree or it's not worth it I lived in Italy for 13 years but I was working on a American military base so I had it made but now with the Euro the way it is and the dollar as low as it is makes things really hard.
I would love to visit again but wouldn't want to live their any more. |
