In Italy for 5-6 days, what to do?

In winter Italy is cool.
Po valley has a continental climate and it often snows in city like Milan or Turin. Venice has a milder climate but in winter it may happen that there is a very strong and cold wind called "Bora" and in winter there may be high tide and you should have boots because Tide submerges many places like Piazza San Marco and the cathedral. Temperature is from -5Â° to 7Â°. But venice is beautiful in all seasons.
Pisa is not a beautiful city: You should see only Piazza dei miracoli where you can find the romanic cathedral , the baptistry and the famous leaning tower. The climate in Pisa in January is mild: minimum 1Â° maximum 11Â°.
In Rome there are too many places to see... It might rain and average temperature is from 2Â° to 12Â°
In Venice and Rome I can't list all the places.
Venice: Rialto Bridge, Canal Grande, Ca' d'oro, Piazza San Marco, Murano Island ( for glass ) , Burano Island ( for laces )
San Marco Church, Palazzo Ducale( and the Bridge of the sighs ) ...

You can find on wikipedia a list of Museums, Bridges, monuments, archeological sites, etc...
For Shopping in Rome I can suggest Via del Corso or Via Nazionale. If you want to see fashionable shops (Gucci, Prada ... ) Via della Spiga, Via Condotti (near Spain Steps ).

In Venice transports more used are ferries (commonly used as Buses ). But you can reach Venice also by train.
Gondolas are very expensive and are touristy. It costs about 100 Euros I suppose.
In Rome there are buses but I suggest you the underground.

Don't waist a minute live it up, ask around and be safe. Most important note, avoid getting so worked up about doing something that you forget to have fun, if that happens you will find hat when you come back you will need a vacation from your vacation.

your gonna love it!...Venice is so beautiful, if you plan on taking the full two days there you should be able to see everything, its so compact that you can walk around the whole city in a day...pisa the same...Rome you might need to get a map and dont even attempt to drive. just walk and dont get hit by a crazy person on a scooter. they are everywhere. it will be cold, but not too bad, in Venice i recommend a heavier jacket because the wind coming off the sea...have a great time!..ciao!

I think your plan is perfect, but apart from monuments you should go shopping, then relax in a cafÃ¨ (but watch out, because they're quiet expensive, especially in the centre of the cities) and, most of all, you have to go to the club at night (on Saturday night)!

Anyway...Italy in January can be very cold...it's the coldest month during the year indeed...

DEFINATELY try the pasta hehe

In Pisa all the major sights including the leaning tower are concentrated in one location, so you will see everything there's to see in one day.

In Rome, I would go see the Colosseum, the Palatine Hill, the ancient city (or old Forum) and the Vatican museum. Take a doubledecker bus tour. You'll see a lot and it stops at the sights I've mentioned above.

January's gotta be better than Italy in the summer: you can just die from the heat. In Rome, at a minimum, go visit the Vatican and the old Forum. The Vatican has arranged all of its libraries and the tour through the Sistine Chapel into one long trek, which is mostly worthwhile only if you want to say you've seen it. Otherwise, just go visit St Peter's Basilica, which is definitely worth the trip.

The Forum is really weird, it's so old. See if you can tail onto one of the guided tours. But before you go, do some reading about the history of the Forum; how it's laid out and how it was restored to what it is today.

I can't help with Pisa or Venice.

2 days in Venice will be heaps of time as its so small and easy to get around (but definately get a map!!!)....St Marco Square (and basicalla) and the Doge's Palace are must sees........ there are lots of churches scattered around and you can visit them at your pleasure...
I understand the Murano Glass factory is worth seeing if you have time (but I missed it as I didn't know it was a good place to go).
There are lots of little shops around the place to visit and the market next to the Rialto Bridge is worth visiting for buying trinkets (although I doubt the authenticity of the glassware, its cheap)

Pisa...hmm I only spent an hour or so there, apparently there is not much more than the the leaning tower...BUT Florence is only an hour by train and DEFINATELY worth checking out...its lovely (but crowded)...there is another little town to the north of Pisa called Lucca which is called a mini-florence and its also worth seeing.

Rome....hmmm Roman stuff galore...eg Colloseum, Roman Forum, Pantheon
The Vatican and the vatican museum (that has the Sistine Chapel)
Renaissance stuff like the Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona (right round the corner from the Pantheon).
Its pretty easy to get around Rome either on foot or using the Metro.
