I will be having a presentation on the country Italy. Like what the attractions the country have and so on... I also need help in knowing how to pronounce a few of the italian words... So I won't embarrass myself. Heh...
So this word,
-Fontana di Trevi. It's the fountain right? So how do I pronounce that?
Famous People
-Botticelli
-Michelangelo
-Tintoretto
-Caravaggio
-Verdi and Puccini
-Federico Fellini
Food
-Ricotta (cheese)
History
-Renaissance
Anyone who can help me in the pronounciation of those words above?

Has anyone here been to Italy? If you have, please tell me
-how you find the place and what you like most about it.
-Why did you want to go there in the first place?
-What is your favourite place there? (e.g. Colosseum, Leaning tower of Pisa...)??

Any suggestions on what I should add in to my presentation would be appreciated... Thank you for your help!!!

You're right, Fontana di Trevi is a fountain in Rome.

Here's a rough guide to pronunciation. It's not exact as it's difficult to explain it in text to someone who speaks English rather than Italian, but it should get you by. Whenever I say 'ee' it should be pronounced like 'ee' in English but slightly shorter.

Fontana di Trevi - Fon-taana dee Trair-vee.
Botticelli - Botty-chelly
Michelangelo - Mickel-ann-jello (Mickel rhyming with nickel)
Tintoretto - Tin-tor-etto
Caravaggio - Caravajjo (jo as in the girl's name jo)
Verdi - Vair-dee
Puccini - Pucheenee (make the "ch" sound last a little longer than it does in English)
Federico Fellini - Federeeco Felleeni
Ricotta - Rick-otta

Renaissance is actually a French word, in Italian it's known as 'Il Rinascimento' (pronounced Rin-ashy-men-toe)

I was actually born in Italy, and it's a beautiful country with a long and rich history. Hard to name a favourite place, but Verona's always worth a visit.

Other famous Italians you could mention:

Leonardo da Vinci - Layo-nar-do dah Vinchy
Galileo Galilei - Ga-lee-layo Ga-lee-lay-ee

Good luck with your presentation! :-)

i actually lived in northern italy for three years. i loved living there. i believe italians are the most friendliest people. Italians know how to have fun, live life to the fullest, and expecially relax. At a certain time of the day, (around noon) it is known as quiet hour. It is where most of the stores close down for an hour or two and just relax at home or where ever. I say my favorite place has to be ST. Marco square in venice. It is a beautiful cathedral and square. Also in the square, there are hundreds of pegions. It's really fun feeding the pegions. i could probably go on and on, on how great of a country Italy is...
i hope this answer somewhat helped you

hope you know the international phonetic alphabet...
fontana di trevi [fon'tana di trèvi]
botticelli [botti'tchèlli]
michelangelo [mikè'landgèlo]
tintoretto [tinto'rètto]
caravaggio [kara'vadgdgjo]
verdi ['vèrdi]
puccini [pu'tchtchini]
federico fellini [fédé'riko fé'llini]
ricotta [ri'kotta]
renaissance in italian is "rinascimento" [rinashi'mènto]
i'm italian and i live in the south, near naples. my favourite place is the palazzo vecchio in florence. it's the town hall and it is situated in a large square with a porticato with plenty of sculptures, originals and reproduction of famous artists, and also sculptures of the most significant people who lived in florence since the middle ages.
but the thing i like the most in italy is the "pietĂ " by michelangelo. the sculpture situated inside san pietro cathedral in rome. everytime i see it i feel tears in my eyes...the stendhal syndrom...
i think evrybody interested in arts and history should come and visit italy like pepole in 19th century from all over europe used to, making the "grand tour", because italy is an open-air museum.

Italy is lovely. Architecture for me was da bomb.
My favourite place was Rome. Maybe because there is so much remaining archeology around ie the Coloseum. The people are not as friendly as I would have hoped and you would have to love pizza or bread based food as that was all they seemed to eat.
The men are sleeze bags, especially on a cramped bus which is usual. Millions of motorbikes zipping everywhere.
Venice was nice but, you either had to boat around or walk everywhere, and we could only seem to find one tiny park in the whole place (green grass) the rest of the place was stone or concrete.
But the history well outstood any of the bad side of Italy.
I would love to go back again.
Hope that helped a little

-Renaissance: the italian word is RINASCIMENTO

-Ricotta is cheese from cow or sheep, but tipical roman ricotta is from sheep
