Is Milan worth seeing or visiting on a trip to Italy?

I'm from Milan too. I'd say you should see it. Stop for one day and visit the centre. you can do everything without taxi, just by walking.. heres what I'd do:

If you go directly to milan with the malpensa express, then you are at Cadorna, this is a pretty station, go outside have a look. then go left as you get outside the main entrance. you will get to Castello Sforzesco. visit it. then either ask for Duomo and go there walking, you will pass through PIAZZA Cordusio, its a nice short walk. visit the dome , go on top of it (4 euros, must be before 4pm).... you can lie on the roof and get a tan.. or eat there I guess...I usually sun bathe.. ..

get down from the dome and then go shopping in the Galleria or ask for Via Torino (right next to this). Keep walking and shopping.

Teatro La Scala is also a good place to go to...(the theatre)...opera and stuff like that is there.

when you get fed up either eat at the dome, or go back to cadorna (you can get the tube for one euro, red line 2 stops) and have a packed lunch at Parco Sempione (a park, right next to it! ...at night you can go clubbing there, there is a club, entrance is 20 euros) ... walk across the park in the opposite direction of the dome, and you'll get to the Arco della Pace. A good place for Happy hours...but not the best.. its nice to see.

Try go see the last supper. which is still in the centre.but it has no tube really next to it, transport gets there...

Still just a few stops from the centre is BRERA PICCOLO TEATRO. its on the green line . one or two stops. here you can have cheap drinks. If you all want to get drunk drink there :) ... also. there is a huge local market. you will find lots of cheap stuff and (unfortunately for our economy) lots of fake stuff (cheap)... you can have dinner here but I'd go there for a happy hour. absolutely!!!!!

A good place to go are also the Navigli. its a water course running through milan. still close to Via Torino ,,, you can get really nice beer and still good dinners. there is a good restaurant which is a stationary boat on the "river"..here you can eat ...the location is great.. dont worry if you havn't booked places.. if there is no space (I doubt) go to the Fontanelle! across the street. here is a good and pretty cheap place to drink beer and eat ...meat is best.

there are other tons of places you can go to next to the centre... I reallly think you should visit milan.. maybe I only say this because I live next to it and am 18, but honestly if you know where to go its great.

if you want a nice pool... during the day. go with the tube to lotto. get a cab (its cheap from here and there is a station) and ask for Harbour Club. :) entrance fee is 40 euros. but you have everything there.. gym, pools , tennis, soccer , spa golf etc... if its really hot and you just want to nap.

other than Milan you will probably want to go to Venice first, then milan (south) ..

San Gimignano is south from that. its really great,,,, I can give you a hand with a place to stay because my grandparents have an Agriturismo and also Rent appartments.. for your kids, I strongly suggest going for a walk through the fields. I love it and always walk straight lines from the appartments to San gimignano, and have a pic nic in the fields. It will be an hours walk.. and there are cabs to get back. its really awesome.

Florence is great. I also like it very much, it is also superb for shopping, there is one big street market there too... its also more interesting for young people...

Pisa is ok, still very cultural, I would visit it, its a bit less entrataining for young people

Naples, Amalfi, Capri are good cities, along with Stromboli etc... for good clubbing go to Panarea at Raya ( It will suit older people mostly)....you need good clothes and 30 euro entrance... but as I said, its for older people mostly...I've been there though.... the island itself is stunning at night...there is a very energetic atmosphere, however it is really small , dont go there if you dont want to enjoy nightlfe

I'm from Milan but I visited Rome.
Great differences between Milan and Rome are: language (Milan is a multicultural city and speaks a standard Italian, Rome has a typical dialectal accent), life (Milan is the centre of Italian Economy and Work, while Rome is more linked to Tourism).
Milan is a very big city, it is a "little" New York.
Milan has inserted its Cultural Heritages in its new life. And you will see Duomo, Teatro Alla Scala, Castello Sforzesco, Santa Maria delle Grazie exc...near all the newest buildings.
Milan has many shops and boutiques. Footbridges are many but...is difficult entering if you have no invites ;o(
People here, buy media at Ricordi Mediastore, Messaggerie Musicali, Mediaworld, Saturn, and Cloths at Miss Sixty, Footlocker, Levi's, Nadine, Zara, exc...You will find the boutiques linked to the cloths showed in the footbridges by Armani, Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, Biagiotti exc...in Via della Spiga or Via Montenapoleone near Duomo and Teatro alla Scala, but they are very very expensive! (For example an hat...1000 euros...).
as for pubs...Milan is fantastic!
We have great discos: Alcatraz, Rolling Stone, Hollywood, de Sade, ...Pubs: Cowboys Guest Ranch, Milwaukee'd Diner, Angelo Nero, exc...and many beautiful places with beaches and tropical swimming pools, like Acquatica, The Beach ad Idroscalo Punta dell'Est, or very fashion places like Cheval Cafe (At Ippodromo near the Leonardo's Statue), Just Cavalli Cafe (The local of Cavalli, a stylist), exc...I send you a link in which yu will find all the most famous discos, pubs, hotels exc.. of Milan even if it is written in Italian: http://www.milanonotte.it/discoteche_mil...

Italy has beautiful ancient places I think the beauty of Italy is Its past: castles, ancient churches, exc...and...food!
We have many wines, cheeses, exc...
In the south of Italy you will find more traditions and ancient past: Pompei for example is a city which was covered by the, I don't know the term, we say "lava", fire...of the Vulcan thousands years ago and you still can see the corpses today covered by stone.Then Ercolano, Capri, Agrigento and its temples. The centre of Rome...was the one which made great the Romans during the Imperial age. In the south you will find different type of cousine which uses much more oil, poverty and dialectal language. In the north..lives commerce, economy, so Milan is much more near the rest of Europe as fashion and traditions.The city I have found more similar to Milan is Paris.
There are many beautiful cities. Surealy Venice 4 hours with train from Milan.

i think that Milan has something interesting, but nothing compared to Venice, Florence Rome or Naples.

i mean, the city historical center is really really nice.
The Duomo, the Sforza Castle, the Vittorio Emanuele Gallery (where you can shop the best brands as Prada, Gucci and so and so) but just outside the historical part it's just a mess of cars, buildings, apartments and more you go out more you see factories and then the country....

I think if you're going to a spot closer to Milan, you should see the things that has to offer... if you want to move from Florence to Milan, it takes more of 3 hours, almost 4 of train.

It depends on how long you're planning to stay in Italy... but if you're staying less than 2 weeks don't bother. There are many more nice cities to see, where shops are cheaper too.

Since you will be going to Italy, I would say you should go visit Milan. It is one of the biggest city in Italy and also one of the most famous so don't miss on the chance to experience Milan. It is not just one of the world's renowned capital in fashion and design, it is also known to be one of the major artistic centers of Northern Italy. i definitely recommend going to milano. there is more to see than high fashion. i think 2 nights there should be sufficient for you because you need more time in the other major cities. here is a site to help you see what there is to do:

Milan is a fashion, business and financial center of Italy. It is not your typical Italian city with old ruins but the Duomo is one of the most impressive I've ever seen and definitely worth visiting. Also you can see the "Last Supper" by Leonardo da Vinci at the Santa Maria delle Grazie. Note that advanced booking is required to see the fresco.
Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is the shoppers paradise. You can also by a lot of fashionable clothes at a reasonable prices around the city.

u visit there n see... i'll be on milan this summer too... haha...

I'm from Milan and I like it, but It's not vital to see it. If you have a lot of time you can spend 2-3 days here, but there are dozens of more worthy places.

Yes, Milan is definatley worth visiting!

I have just got back from italy (I live in the US) and we stopped off in Milan for a couple of days, and it was amazing!
However, comming from the US, everywhere I went in Italy was amazing! So I think that if you want to visit Italy, it does not really matter what town(s) you go to, you are bound to have fun if you go with the right people! When you get back home, its not what you bought that you remember, its how much fun you had, what you saw, and who you were with that you will remember!

Milan is a complete waste of time. It is a rude, unfriendly and money orientated place. You would be much better off visiting Turin. You can still get good fashion plus shops and the city itself is much nicer. I am a little biased as I live in Turin but come and visit the city I have made home and you will see why it is so great.
