Yes, almost everything should be open but it will be quite packed on Easter weekend since it is the highest Roman Catholic holiday, more important than Christmas even. But if you manage to still find a hotel room, you should have a great time - the weather will be perfect, not too hot and not too cold. Hope you find everything to your liking!! |

It doesn't totally shut down but it's VERY crowded with tourists, esp religious tourists. Could be hard to get a hotel room, and definitely not all the shopping and restaurants will be open. Unless you are going primarily for a religious experience this is not the best time to go to Rome. |

The week that ends with Easter is called "Holy Week" in the Catholic Church. There's a different ritual coinciding with the events of Christ's death and resurrection each day of the week. VERY elaborate. VERY ritualized. And VERY crowded. If you don't have reservations already, you might not get them! |

Yes, on Easter, it IS packed, but NOTHING CLOSE to what it is on Christmas. If you decide to visit for Easter mass, I would say get there and wait outside like three hours early if you want to get a good seat. It is however very gorgeous and fun, so go ahead! |

Rome is a MESS on Easter. It is full of pilgrims and such. It would be fun, but if I were you I would pick another destination. I know someone who went to Egypt for Easter and they liked it. But most people avoid Rome during Easter, unless they are traveling FOR religious reasons! But yes, everything stays open! :) |

Just go and have fun. There is a lot to see on the outskirts of Rome. You don't have to do the Vatican and religious stuff. Visit Ostia Antica an old Roman site by the water. There is also a medieval castle right across the street. You can get to these locations by taking the train and hoofing it a couple of blocks. Visit the gardens at Tivoli and Hadrian's Villa. |

It does not all shut down and it wouldn't matter even if it did. It is enough just to walk the streets and squares and immerse yourself in the wonder of its history |

Rome is always an excellent destination, however, the weather might not be the best. I would rather go in the summer, so that you can enjoy the beaches as well. |

rome is a suitable destination for Easter weekend and it does not shut down, because the Easter Mass is conducted by the pope himself and there are people who go in 1000's to attend it. Hence rome cant take a vacation during easter weekend |

I went to Rome in the summer, and even then it was pretty crowded at the Vatican. There are other great places to go in Italy though... Capri and Florence were both amazing. I don't think Rome during Easter would be a good idea, sorry! |
