Rome has a moderate temperature - sort of like Los Angeles in the winter. I lived there for 5 years - the winter months were generally in the 50's....of course these days you can never tell...you will most likely have rain but the last time it snowed was 1970...that was the first snow they had had in some 20 years.
Have fun... |

Rome can be cold in January, but you have to consider the advantages as well - such as not many tourists! The lines to get into places are much shorter, the streets are less crowded and you can usually get much better deals on hotels. I used to live in Italy and am going back again in January myself - would rather go when it is this weather and fewer people than in the summer when it is hot, humid and full of tourists.
Just be sure to check the weather beforehand and take along layers - at least that way you can dress appropriately no matter what the weather is like. And remember you can always buy extra sweatshirts or jackets while you're there if you need something warmer - and umbrellas can be found just about anywhere if needed!
I would suggest, however, gloves - sometimes standing in line or even in some of the cathedrals can get chilly and they really help, even just to carry bags if you're going to be shopping and it's cold!
Have fun and enjoy Rome! |

Too cold for what??? It's going to have a temperature (which you can find out on Yahoo Weather) - it won't be too cold for air to be gaseous but it will be too cold to sleep naked on the street.
I know lots of Romans who have been there in January - one can only assume they like it.
Next question - "will it be nice in Kansas in springtime?" "Will I have fun if I go to Paris?" "What would be a good question to ask about travelling somewhere?" |
