Although Sicily has its own unique culture, it is currently part of Italy. At various times in the past, it has been independent, a part of Spain, and a part of Greece. |

Yep, with it own culture and everything. Of course by them being so close they share a lot of the same cultural aspects, but in essence they are two separate countries. |

In Sicily a dialect is spoken.
The Sicilian Dialect is "distinct enough from Standard Italian to be considered a separate language" but is not recognised as an official language.
