Is Spanish Steps, Rome Italy the best place to stay?

We stayed on the other side of the river near the Vatican City next to a good shopping district - affordable shops, not designer. It was very safe and an easy walk to the rest of the town. It was a modern and quite classy area.

The spanish steps area is very nice, but you can also try the piazza navona area, the via veneto area and some areas around the colosseum. The quietest of these areas will be the via veneto area. This was a hot spot in the 50's but now has quieted down. It is a wonderful area with some really nice hotels and great restaurants. There is also a lot of shopping. Piazza Navona is a very popular area but you will be able to find really nice hotels and restaurants in this area. It is closer to the vatican than the other areas but not far from anything.

The Spanish Steps is a good place to stay because it close to many things (metro stop, taxi stand, walking distance), but it is expensive. Other good places to stay near are the Pantheon and Piazza Navona because it is in the center of old Rome. Rental in Rome is a good service if you are interested in renting an apartment. For your family, renting an apartment might be a good option because it is easy to eat meals there twice a day (which will cut costs) and it is much more spacious and not overly expensive, especially if you are planning for an extended vacation.

We stayed in the Trastevere area and LOVED it. I would stay there every time I visit. It is across the Tiber from Ancient Rome but amazingly convenient to everything -- you can even walk to the Vatican. But the best part is at night the place is filled with people strolling the streets and eating at the lovely little restaurants. It is so much fun -- and kids are everywhere, so your 9-year-old would love it, too. We went across the river a couple of evenings and ate at Piazza Navona and Campo de Fiori, but neither compared to the fun of Trastevere. We stayed at a great B&B which was clean and quiet.

I would suggest you Eurostar International Palace hotel - via Nazionale no.46. It's a good hotel, very safe, a helpful staff, with a great breakfast and, the most important, very well located, close to the main beauties of Rome.

The Spanish Steps is a great area in Rome, but it is highly priced in every way. The food is expensive, the stores are all couture and in March there was a lot of construction going on in the streets. There are also a lot of college age peddlers out there so be careful. In the rest of Rome the peddlers are "gypsies" and easy to determine. If you are trying to get a true Roman experience I would suggest finding some small hotels and do a review on TripAdvisor.

I'd say that would be the so called safest neighborhood in Rome. It is definitely pricey!!! I went to Rome a couple of months ago and stayed right by the Santa Maria Maggiare Church. When i got home from Rome, i had read that the neighborhood i was staying at was considered ghetto. But i didnt even realize it was. Basically i thought Rome was very safe. However, stay away from the street vendors. The items they sell are way cheaper at actual stores. Plus they are, excuse my language, bullshit artists. Just remember that no one takes a taxi there and you will be using the subway the whole time. Feel free to message me back and i will try my best to help you. yep, your in the middle of some action there. pritty great location, it's good in terms of accecability to resteraunts and shops, you'll be right near Dior!, my favorite store in rome. and entertainment. it's quite safe and very clean. Palio Bianco Hotel is there and from what i'ev heard is very nice, so you should check into that.
