Yes, Venice is in Italy. You will probably get lots of sneering "answers", but your question is not silly.
Venice was Austrian territory until 1918 and was given to Italy as a prize for being on the winning side (Italy was allied with Britain, France, Russia, and the USA in WW1). Trieste was a semi-independent area called the "Free Territory of Trieste" from 1947 until 1954.
Yugoslavia tried to claim Trieste after WW2, basically as a prize for being on the winning side. However, possession was returned to Italy in 1954. |
