Is a passport required to get into San Marino in Europe if we already showed one to get in Italy?

I am planning on going to Italy summer 2007. Since the country of San Marino is enclaved by Italy, would we need a passport to get in? Is there anything else that I should know about San Marino?
Additional Details
The most thorough responce with relevant links will get my vote. Thanks in advance.

you should have a valid passport or identity card with you, but i hardly think it will be controlled. the only thing i kwow for sure is that you can do taxfree shopping in san marino. the san marino euro coins are very hot for people who collect coins.

SUMMER!
Hi! I'm Laura from Italy!
You don't need the passport but don't forget you ID card!
Bye! :-)

I'm italian, I live in Rome. You don't need to show your passport in San Marino!
