Is a winter jacket needed for early October in Rome or Florence, Italy. How cold does it normally get?

It should still be reasonably warm so I would suggest a cardigan plus umbrella or a light waterproof jacket as it can rain.

not a winter jacket, sweaters maybe, light jacket, umbrella is a MUST!! Have a great time, take note of all the fountains and listen for the bells.....

If you go to http://www.weather.com you can type in where you're going, click on the city and then theres a spot where you can look at averages for every month of the year!!

Have a wonderful time!!!!!

October weather is similar to weather in Dallas Texas in October. Cool enough for a jacket/sweater. However, you should really be prepared for rain. Tote an umbrella because when it comes suddently it is damp and cold and miserable.

I just got back from Rome last week and it is still very warm, almost hot, during the day. But definitley carry an umbrella because it will rain and it is cold at night.

The average daily high for Rome in Oct. is 73 degrees, going down to 63 in Nov. The average daily low is 53, then down to 46 in November. Florence is slightly colder on average. Plan for the possibilities of variation and wind.

You definitely don't need a winter jacket, just a sweater of light jacket will do.The weather is usually between 60F to 65F.
